  <title>Little Missouri River</title>

I spent 2 weeks in North Dakota. Ya never really know what the weather will be like there and I have not been there in August for some 16 years. Usually August is hot, stifling hot. But, living in the South has pretty much conditioned me for any hot you can toss my way. The weather while I was there was as perfect as the weather could have been. It almost made me wonder why I chose to leave. Ask me that again if I ever visit in the pits of January or February. I think I would be quick to remember.

I took my family to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which is where I go at least once. But, this time I did more walking around than I usually do, and in doing so I stumbled across the view of the Little Missouri River as it winds through the terrain. For some reason I have been passing by this spot, having either forgotten it was here, or just not realizing that the walk up to the top of the ridge in the right light gives such a feeling of freedom and peace.

Tomorrow I'm off to North Dakota. I'll be gone for two full weeks. I'm leaving very early in the morning and I'm sort of stressing about packing too many things in my bag and still needing to put more in it in the morning. I always pack too much..

When I was there in April, I brought back a photo album of black and white pictures. This one grabbed my eye as it was the most spontaneous and the most interesting to me. It's a photo of my mom and I would say that it dates to 1950-something. She's frowning, but probably because there's a camera pointed her way and she's not prepared for it.

I woke up this morning to the sound of rain and I rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. My clock said 7:10. It said 7:10 for a long time, actually. My daughter came in and told me that it wasn't 7:10 and wondered what was wrong with my clock. It was really 8:30. Washing bedding, vacuuming and having my morning coffee, I'm looking out the window and the rain has stopped. Too bad. My little one came down the hall and said, 'It doesn't rain in the MORNING!' She is right, actually. I can't recall but one more morning this summer where I woke up to find the ground wet.

My birthday was good. I am not sure I was able to stretch it out though. I was lucky enough to have one day. We are still eating the cake, and a friend sent me chocolates that the kids have been eating while I'm at work. Probably just as well, but I'm tempted to move them a 3rd time to a more secure location in my bedroom. I had to move them off the counter already, but I feel there is a certain larger child in my house who is still helping herself. For the love of chocolates, I'm going to have to take them into my sole custody. Selfish, I know, but it's really best for everyone.

I was given 6 sessions with a personal trainer at the gym. I am not so sure how that is supposed to work, but I haven't made my first appointment yet. Getting time to do any exercise is difficult. I really am lucky to find 3 evenings in a week where I can really devote to an hour of exercise.
And, I think the fitness and health experts now say that everyone should have 60-90 minutes of exercise 5 days/week. I don't know what planet these fitness experts are really from, but you know as well as I do that if you work full time and have kids, getting that amount of time to do anything is asking too much.

Today is my birthday. And, I can say I really do like birthdays- even my own.

So, to celebrate, here I am in this picture, probably some 30 years ago, next to a white pony. He's not my white pony, but I was standing next to him. Ah, living was sweet back then.

Cake for everyone on me today. No diets today- just cake. My favorite cake is carrot cake so if you happen to fancy a piece of carrot cake, think of me.

I am following this bee around. Something sort of eerie going on here though.

Last week I had a workout with a personal trainer which left me nearly crippled for 3 days. Today I did my run and I'm up to 2.5 miles. I actually found myself not struggling as much and just simply enjoying it more. I found that very interesting. I have to drive to do my run. That's pretty stupid, but I like to run along the river and so I have to drive to get there. Anyway, when I got back into my car to drive home, there was a bee sitting on my windshield and it would not leave. It actually stayed there the entire way home, which was sort of annoying because I wanted to drive with my window open, and I was pretty concerned that it would get dislodged off the window and end up on me. That bee is what made me think of posting this picture.

It's day no4 of my 4-day weekend. I can't say that I did anything except lay around and relax the entire time.

I was restless today, so I went over to the alternative photography site to try to get some inspiration. I was curious about lumen prints, having never heard of such things, so I decided to try one. Not so sure how it might be received, but it didn't take a terrible amount of effort.

I am really so very happy that it's Wednesday. I'm falling asleep in my chair. I was supposed to have a workout with a personal trainer tonight, but somehow my appointment was left off the schedule. So, I managed a quick workout, and then home to relax. I don't have to be back at work for 4 days and I've been trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my time off. I think a canoe trip down the Clinch River, or a trip to the museum for the Anvil throw. Maybe a very early photo shoot by the river. I'd better be getting to bed. The weather is beautiful, so tonight I've been sitting outside listening to the crickets and watching the stars. My eyes are heavy, and I'm exhausted.

I have decided that I really like this K1000. I like getting something 'new' and making the test rolls. It usually gives me about 10 mins of instant satisfaction, snapping at everything. I have a bunch of film from month's gone by to process, but the test rolls always take the priority. fun! HJey, I could develop the other film while I'm off work this weekend. That would be a great thing to do.
Anyway, I'm glad that I am having fun with a camera I paid $30 for, and not the new D700 which you can now pre-order for a mere $3000. In one word- HUH?? How many zeros are in that figure? (my soapbox is too high to reach tonight- maybe some other night when my eyelids don't need propping).

The 4th of July is coming. A friend emailed me today to remind me of good times gone by. In one word his email said- 'Weeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!' Isn't that what everyone says when they watch fireworks? I love you man. You gave me the best smile today.
